The production of fungal allergen raw material is a complex process requiring strict control of the production parameters and in-depth knowledge of fungal physiology.

In a recent review article PhD Robert E. Esch (J Allergy Clin Immunol 2004;113:210-5) discusses the difficulties involved in the production and standardisation of allergen extracts. The author also emphasise the importance of standardisation of fungal allergen products.

At Allergon we integrate our long experience of growing moulds for the allergy industry with the growing disciplines of fungal physiology and biotechnology. The focus of our mould research is to understand the physiological mechanisms behind the expression of the allergenic molecules and on improving batch-to-batch reproducibility by optimisation of our production processes.
